Multiple framework contracts in cascade for the development and supply of the ITER in-vessel viewing and metrology system (IVVS)

Design, manufacturing, delivery, on-site integration, commissioning and final acceptance tests of the in-vessel viewing system (IVVS), one of the remote handling systems to be delivered in kind to ITER by the European Domestic Agency.

The cost impact of this deviation amounts to EUR 508,000.29; the total value of the contract has been increased to EUR 3,626,916.07. The present deviation aims at modifying the scope of work in several areas:
1) inclusion of experimental work on joining piezo ceramics to copper wires (WBS 04.01.02.06);
2) procurement of radiation-hard, vacuum-compatible linear positioning systems from SmarAct (WBS 04.02.02.03);
3) procurement of long-lead items for the MS FOAK (WBS 04.02.06), facilitating the transition between the final design phase and the MS FOAK manufacturing and testing phase;
4) inclusion of extra testing of hybrid bearings and pick-ups by Micronor (WBS 04.01.01);
5) inclusion of preliminary finite-element analyses for the prism cage (WBS 04.01.03.01) and the probe chassis (WBS 04.02.04.05);
6) development of an integrated analysis model to support the structural integrity analysis (WBS 07.01.03);
7) descoping of the integrated vibration analysis (WBS 04.04.03), not deemed pertinent anymore to demonstrate the system performance;
8) conversion of the DONES Lithium Jet Target Diagnostic activity (WBS 04.06) into an option, as it is no longer clear whether the prerequisites for this task will be fulfilled.
This task will give Bertin Technologies the opportunity to:
1) depart from their original plan to implement the thermo-mechanical analysis of the MS internally and, instead, externalise this activity to achieve better value for money;
2) increase the mission budget in view of the increasing number of ESPs requiring follow-up.
