The joint project Arna-Stanghelle would like to test an alternative overall approach with new methodology to reduce the need for water and frost protection, for both roads and tracks. The aim of this is to establish suitable systems for the main tunnels, which provide less CO2 emissions than the current systems.

NGI and SINTEF propose an alternative concept to widely used methods for water and frost protection in the form of water leakage control with an expanded and adapted methodology for forinjection. The project wishes to test this methodology in a test stretch in the access tunnel/transport tunnel at Romslo and Naustvika. The concept involves needs-tested forinjection with high sealing targets in combination with a shotcrete that has higher water density than ordinary rock securing shotcrete.
