LOT 1 : Construction of water production and Liwonde water supply system

The Southern Region Water Board has received a loan through the Government of Malawi from the European Investment Bank towards the funding of the Water Supply Improvement for Liwonde and Balaka Towns programme and intends to apply part of the proceeds for the Procurement of:
Water Production System
- Intake: Renovation of the existing river intake at the Shire River, construction of additional pump sump next with pump housing building, installation of 3 pumps
- Transmission main: 580m of DN700 DI from the new intake to the WTP
- Water treatment plant: New 32,500 m3/d (the ultimate capacity of 43,334 m3/d at 2050) consisting of inlet works, flocculation and sedimentation tanks, rapid gravity filters, 3,500 m3 contact tank and one 300 m3 Elevated Steel Backwash Tank. Auxiliary facilities: chemical and chlorination buildings, chemicals storage building, 3 sludge drying beds, one backwash lagoon, administration and laboratory buildings together with site works.
- Pump house: Three (3) Treated water pumping station ranging from 56 m3/h to 300 m3/h and a backwash filter pumping station.
- E & M, instrumentation and control works.
Liwonde Town Water Supply System
- Treated water pumping station: 1 unit 60 m3/h at 86 m
- Water storage reservoir: 3 units – 2 x 5 ML ; 1 x 0,5 ML and 1 x 1 ML
- Transmission main: 20,07 km DI and PVC-U DN 200 to 500 mm
- Distribution system : 41,5 km 10 water kiosks
- E & M, instrumentation and control works
